Second Round of US-Iran Indirect Talks in Geneva Concludes
The second round of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran in Geneva concluded Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in talks with US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, mediated by Omani official Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi. Iran maintains it will only discuss limitations on its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, rejecting non-nuclear topics such as its missile stockpiles. Tehran has emphasized it will not accept any restrictions on uranium production.
The discussions occurred amid US requests to broaden the agenda to include Iran's missile reserves, which Iranian officials firmly opposed. A day prior, Araghchi met with Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, for in-depth technical discussions with nuclear experts.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that the United States will not be able to destroy the Islamic Republic. Meanwhile, President Trump remarked that Iran "wants a deal" and indicated his indirect involvement in the Geneva talks.
Reports highlight Tehran's focus solely on nuclear constraints tied to sanctions relief, while refusing US demands regarding its missile program or halting uranium production.
