The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan issued a statement condemning an armed attack on Karamuddin Razazadeh, a member of the former Afghan parliament, in Karaj, Iran. The council described the incident as a "violent and terrorist act" carried out by armed individuals, labeling it criminal and contrary to human, legal, and moral principles. It said such actions pose a serious threat to the security and peace of citizens.

The council urged Iranian security institutions to adopt preventive measures to ensure the safety of citizens, particularly former Afghan government officials residing in Iran.

According to sources, Razazadeh was attacked after noon on Saturday in Karaj, several kilometers from Tehran, by two motorcyclists. He sustained wounds to his hand. Razazadeh is known as an anti-Taliban figure who was previously targeted by the Taliban during the Republic era.

Iranian security agencies have not commented on the incident, and the Taliban embassy in Tehran did not respond to inquiries.

This is not the first assassination attempt on Taliban opponents in Iran. Previously, General Ekramuddin Suri, an anti-Taliban military figure, and his companion were killed in central Tehran. Additionally, Maurof Gholami, a commander close to Mohammad Ismail Khan, was assassinated in Mashhad. Iranian security agencies have provided no official details on these cases.

Iran maintains close relations with the Taliban, alongside Russia, India, and China, and has consistently supported Taliban positions in regional and global forums over the past four years. Some experts view the recent assassinations of former Afghan military personnel in Iran as questionable, suggesting Tehran may be concealing targeted threats against Taliban political opponents due to its proximity to the Taliban.

Reliability assessment

Key facts about the Supreme Council of National Resistance's statement condemning the attack on Karamuddin Razazadeh are corroborated by two independent outlets (Amu TV and BBC Persian), providing direct attribution to a named organization with concrete details on the incident location and description.

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. 'اقدام هراسافکنانه' (terrorist act) and 'جنایتبار' (criminal) from council statement add emotional loading; experts describe assassinations as 'پرسش بر انگیز' (questionable), introducing advocacy framing about Iranian concealment.
