Sweden Urges Citizens to Leave Iran Immediately
Sweden's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised its citizens to leave Iran immediately, citing increasing regional instability and escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The ministry stated on Friday that the situation in Iran and surrounding areas is extremely uncertain. Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard emphasized that while flights and border crossings remain operational, individuals remaining in Iran bear significant personal responsibility. She warned that the Swedish government may be unable to provide assistance in potential evacuation efforts.
The advisory follows U.S. warnings of potential military action if Iran does not reach a nuclear agreement with Washington. Tensions have surged in recent months over stalled nuclear talks, with the U.S. threatening targeted strikes absent a deal.
Sweden has also advised its citizens to avoid travel to Iran until further notice, noting the risk of rapid deterioration in diplomatic or security conditions.
Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, while the U.S. and its allies accuse Tehran of pursuing nuclear weapons capabilities. Previous escalations have prompted travel warnings and evacuations for foreign nationals in the region.
Swedish authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and reiterate the urgency for citizens in Iran to depart.
