SWISS Flight Aborts Takeoff in Delhi After Engine Fire, Six Injured
A SWISS International Air Lines flight bound for Zurich aborted its takeoff at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi following an engine failure and subsequent fire. The incident occurred as the aircraft was preparing for departure, prompting the crew to initiate an emergency evacuation.
Six passengers sustained injuries during the evacuation process and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. All passengers and crew exited the aircraft using emergency slides. No fatalities were reported.
In a statement regarding the incident, the airline confirmed that the flight was halted due to a technical issue with one of its engines. SWISS emphasized that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority. Technical specialists have been dispatched to conduct a thorough inspection of the aircraft to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
The airline has initiated an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the aborted takeoff. Meanwhile, customer service teams are coordinating with affected passengers to arrange alternative travel options to their final destinations. Airport authorities and emergency response teams were present on the tarmac to assist with the evacuation and secure the area.
Flight operations at the airport continued following the incident, though the runway involved was temporarily closed to allow emergency vehicles and aircraft recovery teams to clear the scene. The airline stated it would provide further updates as the technical review progresses.
