The Taliban has implemented a ban on smartphone usage in schools across Panjshir province. The Directorate of Education under the Taliban is responsible for this directive. Teachers, staff, and students are all affected by the prohibition. It becomes effective from the twenty sixth of Jawza.

The information about the ban was shared using WhatsApp groups. District education directors sent the messages to school principals to inform them of the new policy. This method of communication ensured quick dissemination of the order.

Broader restrictions on smartphones have been introduced by the Taliban. Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada gave a verbal order banning such devices for government employees and Taliban forces. Any person found in violation will be sent to military court.

Videos of smartphone smashing have been published by Taliban affiliated people. These videos come from different provinces and show compliance with the order.

Additional bans exist in other areas. Maidan Wardak has seen smartphone bans in its schools. Kandahar has restrictions for its government employees and forces. Herat University under the direction of Hedayatullah Monib has also banned the devices.

The pattern indicates a wider campaign against smartphone use in official and educational environments.

Reliability assessment

Single-source reporting relying entirely on anonymous local sources for the core Panjshir school ban claim; related restrictions reference named officials but the primary event lacks on-record attribution or corroboration

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Amu TV: "in the continuation of the Taliban's new restrictions" and "extensive restrictions on access to information, media, and communication tools" – these phrases frame the measures as part of an ongoing pattern of control, adding mild negative judgment and advocacy tone.
