
Taliban Flogged 1,186 People in Solar Year 1404 Across 31 Provinces
An analysis of official announcements from the Taliban's Supreme Court shows that 1,186 people were flogged in solar year 1404. The figure excludes the last 12 days of the month of Saratan.
Floggings took place in 31 provinces: Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Khost, Badakhshan, Ghor, Paktia, Paktika, Faryab, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Uruzgan, Zabul, Kunar, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Kunduz, Baghlan, Takhar, Badghis, Farah, Nimroz, Logar, Jowzjan, Helmand, Sar-e Pol, Daykundi and Bamyan.
In the last eight months of the year, nearly 100 women were flogged, most of them publicly.
Retributions were carried out in four provinces during solar year 1404. In Khost, one person was publicly retributed in the provincial stadium, attended by thousands of residents, including children. Three people were retributed in Badghis province, one in Farah and one in Nimroz.
Among specific cases, one person in Kapisa province received 39 lashes for advertising against the Taliban system and was sentenced to one year and six months in prison.
In Badghis province, one individual was flogged on the charge of insulting Hibatullah Akhundzada and received a prison sentence.
