Taliban ministry reports 214 Afghans freed from Pakistani prisons in past week
The Taliban Ministry of Refugees stated that 214 Afghan citizens were released from various prisons in Pakistan over the past week, with detainees held for periods ranging from one day to two months.
Taliban Consul General in Karachi Abdul Jabbar Takhari told Amu TV that 314 Afghans were freed from prisons in Pakistan's Sindh province over just two days that week. Takhari noted that women and children were among those released but emphasized that 62 Afghans, including 12 children, remain detained in Sindh prisons.
The ministry's figures cover releases nationwide over seven days, while Takhari's account focuses on Sindh province over two days, highlighting a discrepancy in the reported numbers.
Critics have raised ongoing concerns about insufficient attention to Afghan prisoners abroad since the Taliban's return to power. Some experts attribute the issue to the absence of a legitimate government and lack of accountability to citizens.
