Taliban Restrict Lalmi Cultivation in Ghazni's Nahor District to Local Residents
Taliban authorities in Nahor district of Ghazni province have restricted Lalmi cultivation to residents of local villages only.
Local sources cited an official letter announcing the policy, which allows only individuals residing in the villages to cultivate Lalmi on lands close to their communities. Landowners living elsewhere, including in Ghazni city, are no longer permitted to use their fields in Nahor for this purpose.
Many original residents of Nahor district have relocated to Ghazni city or other areas but continue to own agricultural lands in the district.
Local residents have criticized the restriction, arguing that it facilitates a greater presence of Kochis in the area. They pointed to previous incidents in which nomads obstructed Lalmi cultivation or destroyed lands.
