Taliban's Supreme Court announces public floggings in Faryab and Daykundi
The Taliban's Supreme Court announced public floggings of one woman and two men in Faryab's Shirin Tagab district and four people in Daykundi center, along with additional punishments elsewhere. The Taliban's Supreme Court stated that one woman and two men were publicly flogged in Shirin Tagab district of Faryab province on the 10th of Hamal, a Monday, in the presence of local officials, clerics, government officials, military personnel and ordinary people.
The court also stated that four people were publicly flogged in the center of Daykundi province for transporting alcoholic beverages and not fasting.
On Sunday, the Taliban flogged at least 14 people across Balkh, Jowzjan and Herat provinces for various charges, including insulting officials, according to the Supreme Court.
The Taliban additionally sentenced a woman in Balkh to five years in prison for extramarital relations, the court said.
The Rawadari Human Rights Organization reported that over the past calendar year, the Taliban issued qisas sentences for six people, a stoning sentence for one woman, and flogging sentences for 857 people.
