Ten countries including Britain call for end to clashes in Lebanon
Ten countries -- Britain, Canada, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Sierra Leone and Switzerland -- issued a joint statement expressing deep concern over the humanitarian situation and widespread displacement crisis in Lebanon.
The statement condemns the killing of UN peacekeepers and calls for an immediate end to clashes in the country. It stresses adherence to international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The countries highlighted the urgent need to address the escalating humanitarian challenges amid ongoing violence, underscoring the importance of safeguarding non-combatants and essential services.
In a related development, Canada has allocated 40 million dollars in humanitarian aid for Lebanon. The aid will be distributed to those in need through international institutions, according to Al Jazeera quoting the Lebanese Foreign Ministry.
This announcement comes as Lebanon faces significant internal displacement and a deteriorating humanitarian landscape, with the joint statement urging all parties to prioritize de-escalation and civilian safety.
