Three Early Flood Warning Systems Installed in Kandahar
Kandahar province officials have installed three early flood warning systems to help protect local residents from the dangers of flooding.
The Disaster Preparedness Department of Kandahar Province worked with the KRO Institute to set up the systems in the Spin Boldak and Shawalikot Payin districts.
These newly installed systems are capable of monitoring both water levels and the speed at which water is moving. When they detect conditions that could lead to floods, the systems trigger sirens that alert people in the area to the potential danger.
In preparation for the operation of this equipment, five individuals were trained on how to use the flood warning systems effectively.
The primary goal of this project is to increase public safety and to help reduce the risks that floods pose to communities in these districts.
With these warning systems in place, residents will receive timely alerts allowing them to take precautionary measures.
The technology provides an important tool for disaster preparedness in the region.
Training local personnel ensures that the systems can be maintained and operated by those familiar with the area.
This initiative demonstrates efforts to improve resilience against natural hazards through targeted infrastructure and capacity building.
