U.S. President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating a ceasefire by launching at least four attack drones at ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said one drone struck the upper deck of a large cargo ship that continued its journey, while three others were downed by U.S. forces. He called the incident a "stupid violation."
An unnamed U.S. official told the Associated Press that the ship was a British cargo vessel and that the drone was linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported damage to the ship but no casualties or environmental damage.
The International Maritime Organization has temporarily suspended passage for ships under its protection through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Administration warned that ships moving outside designated routes will not be under safe passage coverage. This is the first reported attack since a 14-point memorandum was signed between the United States and Iran to reopen the strait and begin 60 days of negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program.
