Trump Criticizes NATO Allies for Refusing to Join US, Israel in Conflict with Iran
US President Donald Trump stated that NATO member countries do not want to accompany the United States and Israel in a war with Iran.
Trump told journalists at the White House on Tuesday that many NATO members and close US allies have informed him they will not participate in the conflict. He said these countries have even refused to send forces to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
The president described the allies' decision as mistaken and foolish. In response to a question about potential punishment for NATO members, Trump said he has no current plans and expressed astonishment at their cold stance, according to Reuters.
Trump has previously warned that the United States might withdraw from NATO.
