Trump Says Xi Jinping Is ‘Very Happy’ With Hormuz Reopening Ahead of China Visit
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that Chinese President Xi Jinping is “very happy” with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump made the comments ahead of what he called a “special and possibly historic” visit to China. He expressed optimism for the meeting to produce significant results.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, warned that continued pressure from the United States could cause restrictions on access to the Strait of Hormuz. He said transit through the waterway would be subject to Iran’s rules.
Trump further warned that the ceasefire with Iran will not be extended unless a deal is reached by Wednesday. The president said the U.S. would keep its naval blockade in place if the talks do not succeed.
He stressed that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is a central objective of the United States. The negotiations are focusing on Iran’s uranium stockpiles and regional security.
The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of global energy supplies. Recent tensions involving Iran, the U.S., Israel and Lebanon have increased concerns about possible disruptions to the flow of oil.
