Trump Tells Putin He Is Ready to Help End Ukraine War, Kremlin Says

U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by telephone on Sunday. During the conversation, Trump stated that ending the war in Ukraine is a priority. He also said he is prepared to help advance a settlement to the conflict.
Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov relayed the content of the discussion to Russian news agencies. According to Ushakov, Trump plans to raise the topic with European and Ukrainian leaders when he attends the upcoming G7 summit.
The two presidents touched on other matters as well. They spoke about negotiations between the United States and Iran. Trump expressed the view that a deal with Iran is close to being reached.
U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to travel to Russia again soon. The purpose of their visit is to engage in peace negotiations.
Putin took the opportunity to congratulate Trump informally on his 80th birthday.
The conversation occurred against the backdrop of separate developments between Washington and Tehran. The United States and Iran have agreed on a preliminary framework. This framework covers a 60-day ceasefire. It also involves reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Further negotiations are expected to follow.
