U.S. President Donald Trump thanked two National Guard members injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C., by an Afghan citizen named Rahmanullah Laknwal during his annual address to Congress.
Trump stated: "These two were attacked by a sick Afghan citizen." Andrew Wolf, one of the injured National Guard members, attended the speech and received the George Washington medal on Trump's orders.
The address took place before both chambers of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate. However, dozens of Democratic members boycotted the event in protest.
Trump expressed anger when Democrats did not stand or applaud during parts of the speech while Republicans did, mocking them and calling them "crazy." He criticized them, saying: "These are crazy!"
Trump also criticized Democrats for not approving the Department of Homeland Security budget to address what he called "illegal" immigrants.
