Turkish and German Foreign Ministers Urge De-escalation in US-Israel War Against Iran
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul held a telephone conversation discussing diplomatic efforts to end the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.
The call reviewed attempts to halt the escalating conflict amid rising regional tensions.
UNICEF reported that around 206 children have been killed in Iran during the fighting, underscoring the humanitarian impact.
Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf states hosting U.S. forces. These strikes have inflicted heavy damage on critical infrastructure, disrupted global markets and severely affected air travel across the region.
Turkey has played an active diplomatic role. Fidan has engaged in separate talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as U.S. and European officials, to promote de-escalation.
Diplomatic initiatives have so far failed to secure a ceasefire, with the potential for broader regional instability remaining high.
