
Two Afghan Brothers Drown While Fishing off Ireland's County Clare Coast
LIMERICK, Ireland — Two Afghan brothers living in Limerick drowned while fishing off the western Irish coast in County Clare on Tuesday.
Tajuddin Safi, 30, and Salahuddin Safi, 20, died in the incident. Their bodies were recovered around 4:00 p.m. local time by Coast Guard helicopter R115.
The brothers had resided in Limerick for nearly a decade and were well-known members of the local community.
The tragedy has prompted grief among local residents, migrant support groups and Ireland's Afghan community, underscoring the emotional impact on migrant families and the hazards of the area's coastline.
John Lannon, chief executive of Doras, a migrant support organization, stated that the deaths have deeply affected many people in the community.
