UK Treasury Minister to Warn G7 Against Unilateral Actions Amid Iran War
The UK Treasury announced that Finance Minister Rachel Reeves will urge Group of Seven counterparts to avoid unilateral actions, such as new trade barriers, during the ongoing war against Iran.
Reeves is scheduled to deliver the message at a meeting on Monday attended by G7 finance ministers, energy ministers and central bank governors. The G7 comprises the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the European Union.
In a statement, Reeves said: "Group of Seven member countries must act together, not in ways that transfer pressure to partners or undermine collective resilience."
The Treasury highlighted that such measures could threaten energy security and disrupt supply chains. It referenced reporting by Reuters that Reeves is expected to warn against protectionism that could interrupt the flow of energy and goods, stressing the need for cooperation.
The war against Iran, started by the United States and Israel on February 28, has spread across the Middle East, killed thousands of people and caused significant disruptions to global energy supplies.
