UN Human Rights Office to Send Investigative Team to Lebanon

The United Nations Human Rights Office has announced it will send an investigative team to Lebanon next week. The team is set to examine potential violations of international and human rights laws by all parties in the ongoing conflict, which began on March 2. The mission will focus on gathering information and documenting any violations that may have occurred.

Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said the team aims solely to collect evidence and document possible violations. The investigators are expected to arrive soon and will review events starting from March 2.

United Nations reports show that more than 3,600 people have been killed and more than one million have been displaced due to attacks on Lebanon. Although a ceasefire was announced on April 16, clashes have continued with thousands of additional attacks reported since then.

Warnings have been issued about a worsening humanitarian crisis, with nearly 1.24 million people potentially facing severe food shortages and emergency conditions in the coming months. This deployment is the first time the United Nations has sent a delegation to Lebanon for a direct on-site assessment of the human rights situation.
