The United Nations has announced that more than 273 million children and adolescents worldwide are out of school, with the number increasing for the seventh consecutive year.

This figure means that one in every six school-age children is deprived of education. The UN stated that progress in keeping children in school has slowed since 2015.

The deprivation is mainly due to population growth, crises, reduced budgets, and conflicts. Conflicts have deprived millions of children of education opportunities, including through the closure of many schools amid increased fighting in the Middle East.

The UN report also highlighted that only two out of every three students complete secondary school, underscoring stalled global efforts to ensure universal education amid ongoing challenges.
