Georgette Gagnon, deputy political representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), expressed concern over escalating conflicts between the Taliban and Pakistan, warning that the tensions will persist after Eid.

Speaking at a press conference in New York on Thursday, Gagnon urged both sides to exercise restraint, return to negotiations and dialogue, and work toward establishing a ceasefire.

She emphasized that the conflicts have displaced thousands of people and affected six provinces and eight districts in Afghanistan.

Gagnon called on the Taliban to fulfill their commitments on counter-terrorism and take neighboring countries' concerns seriously.

She added that the war in the Middle East has negatively impacted Afghanistan by disrupting commercial and transit goods transfers, leading to increased prices for goods and food items.

The UNAMA deputy also warned that continued conflicts will negatively affect humanitarian aid processes.

According to Gagnon, the combination of economic, political, and humanitarian crises has intensified Afghanistan's global isolation and endangered prospects for peace and stability in the country.
