
UNDP Commits to Expanding Environmental Assistance to Afghanistan
Maulvi Mutiullah Khalis, General Director of Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency, met with United Nations Development Programme representatives Sergei Volkov and Najibullah Yusufi, along with Deputy Engineer Izzatullah Siddiqi from the REHA Foundation.
The participants discussed a preview of the national report on Afghanistan's environmental situation, the implementation of two environmental projects, and the Jiyaf-nine conference.
Khalis praised the UNDP for its work on environmental protection and climate change adaptation. He requested that a technical team monitor and evaluate the environmental projects.
Sergei Volkov stated that Afghanistan faces many environmental problems but also has many opportunities that must be utilized. He committed the UNDP to expanding its assistance to Afghanistan.
Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening joint cooperation and coordination to address the country's environmental challenges and opportunities.
The meeting reflects ongoing collaboration between Afghan authorities and the UNDP on environmental issues. Khalis highlighted the value of continued partnership in tackling climate change impacts, while the UNDP representatives expressed readiness to scale up support for relevant initiatives in the country.
Discussions during the session underscored the need for sustained engagement to make effective use of available opportunities in environmental management and protection efforts across Afghanistan.
