
UNDP Commits to Expanding Environmental Cooperation with Afghanistan
Maulvi Mutie-ul-Haq Khalis, Head of the National Environmental Protection Agency, met with representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to address key environmental issues facing Afghanistan. The discussions during the meeting revolved around the overall environmental situation in the country, the status of implementation for two environmental projects that are underway, and the GEF-9 meeting.
During his remarks, Khalis expressed gratitude for the activities that the UNDP has been undertaking in the field of environmental protection. He called upon the organization to bring greater precision to the way in which the projects are implemented, ensuring that there is a clear focus on effectiveness and on securing positive results from these initiatives. Khalis also made a specific request for the UNDP to assist in facilitating monitoring activities to be carried out by a technical team that would evaluate the projects and propose improvements.
The UNDP representatives, in their response to the points raised, committed to the expansion of their assistance. They pledged to increase cooperation in the environmental sector throughout Afghanistan.
