UNICEF-Funded Water Networks Completed in Ghor Province
Two UNICEF-funded water supply networks have been completed and handed over in Ghor province, providing safe drinking water to 570 families. The projects were implemented in the provincial center of Firozkoh and the Dolina district at a total cost of approximately 15 million Afghanis. According to official figures, the exact expenditure for the two networks totaled 14,962,959 Afghanis.
Zabihullah Ghousizada, spokesperson for the Provincial Directorate of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, confirmed the completion of the infrastructure. He stated that the networks include two water reservoirs, roughly 16.4 kilometers of distribution piping, and supporting facilities such as wells and solar-powered pumping systems. The initiative aims to address critical water access and sanitation challenges in drought-affected communities across the region.
Local residents have welcomed the infrastructure upgrade, citing improvements to public health and daily living conditions. Community members also called on authorities to expand similar public welfare projects to other underserved areas in the province.
While official reports and Bakhtar News and Pajhwok identified the second project site as Dolina district, Khaama Press reported the location as Dawlat Yar district. Minor variations in reported pipeline length and supplementary equipment counts were also noted across initial reports, though all sources confirmed the core project scope and beneficiary figures.
The handover marks a continued effort to improve rural and urban water infrastructure in western Afghanistan, with international agencies and local authorities coordinating on long-term sustainability and maintenance of the newly established systems.
