Unnamed Iranian Official Warns of Strait of Hormuz Closure in Response to US or Israeli Military Operations
An unnamed Iranian official warned that any military operation by the United States or Israel in the Strait of Hormuz would lead to its complete closure for an indefinite period.
The official added that any ground attack would be met with a similar response against its source. The statement comes amid joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran that have entered their fifth week, targeting high-ranking officials including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated by striking US military bases, embassies and consulates in the region, as well as dozens of targets in Israel with missiles.
US President Donald Trump stated at the White House that Iran's first, second and almost third ranks of leadership have been eliminated, leaving no one willing to lead.
Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran with escalated attacks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.
Following Ali Khamenei's killing, Iranian officials selected his son Mojtaba Khamenei as the new leader, though he has not appeared publicly.
