
UNODC and JICA Support Improvements at Seven Addiction Treatment Centers in Afghanistan
KABUL (Afghan Verified) - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) announced support for addiction treatment services in Afghanistan, in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The initiative targets seven addiction treatment centers located in the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, and Badakhshan. Improvements include upgrades to water facilities, enhanced health services, installation of solar energy systems, and strengthened security measures for patients and staff.
UNODC stated that the project aims to improve the quality of treatment services and working conditions at these centers. The announcement was made on Tuesday, 25 Hamal, via the social network X.
This effort addresses key infrastructure and service needs in regions affected by drug addiction challenges. The specified enhancements are designed to create a more effective environment for recovery and staff operations.
UNODC's involvement underscores ongoing international cooperation in Afghanistan's public health sector, focusing on sustainable improvements to treatment facilities.
