WASHINGTON (Afghan Verified) -- U.S. Representative Yassamin Ansari, a first-term Democrat from Arizona, called for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office and for impeaching Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over the administration's actions toward Iran.
In a statement released on Monday, the 34-year-old lawmaker criticized Trump's threats against Iran's infrastructure and the broader escalation as reckless. Ansari argued that the moves risk an unlawful war, endanger American troops and exceed presidential authority.
"These escalatory actions toward Iran are reckless and put our troops in harm's way," Ansari said in the statement, according to details reported by Khaama Press. She announced her intention to move for Hegseth's impeachment, accusing the administration of overstepping bounds.
Ansari's push highlights deepening partisan divides in Congress over U.S. foreign policy amid heightened tensions with Iran. As a freshman representative, her position aligns with Democratic criticisms of the Republican-led administration's approach to the Middle East.
However, her efforts face steep odds. Republicans hold majorities in both chambers of Congress, making any invocation of the 25th Amendment or impeachment proceedings highly unlikely to advance.
