US National Counterterrorism Center Director Resigns Over War with Iran
Joe Kent, director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, has resigned from his position due to opposition to the ongoing war with Iran.
In a message posted on the social network X on Tuesday, Kent announced his immediate resignation following extensive deliberations. He stated that Iran poses no imminent threat to the United States and argued that the war provides no benefit to Americans while endangering US lives.
Kent attributed the US entry into the war to pressure from Israel and its lobbies through a disinformation campaign. Khaama Press reported that he described the conflict as a US-Israel war against Iran, citing pressure from Israeli officials and influential US media voices.
Kent shared an image of his resignation letter, according to Amu TV. He described his service in the Donald Trump administration and under Tulsi Gabbard as an honor, per Amu TV. Khaama Press said Kent compared the situation to the 2003 Iraq War, warning of costs to American lives and resources and urging Trump to reconsider the military approach.
The resignation comes amid escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with rising casualties and concerns about a wider regional war. It highlights divisions within US leadership over the war's justification and foreign policy priorities.
