US Negotiators Tell Trump Iran Nuclear Deal Difficult or Impossible
US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner informed President Donald Trump that reaching a strong nuclear agreement with Iran remains extremely difficult, possibly impossible, despite ongoing talks.
According to reports, the United States and Israel have agreed to increase pressure on Iran's oil sales while negotiations continue. Witkoff and Kushner conveyed to Trump that achieving a satisfactory deal with Tehran may be very challenging. However, US officials indicated that some positions from Iranian negotiators fall within acceptable limits, allowing discussions to proceed amid skepticism.
Another US official stated there is almost no chance that either side will fully accept the other's proposals, highlighting deep divisions. The negotiators assured Trump that talks would continue while upholding a firm US stance, with final decisions reserved for the president if progress is made.
Witkoff and Kushner are set to meet Iranian representatives in Geneva this week to address remaining differences. Earlier messages have been relayed to Iranian officials via diplomatic channels, including mediation efforts involving Oman.
Despite the diplomatic engagement, US officials expressed caution, noting that any progress hinges on Iran's response and the potential for a mutually acceptable agreement.
