Vietnam’s National Assembly unanimously elected Communist Party General Secretary To Lam as the country’s president for a five-year term.
All 495 lawmakers present voted in favor of To Lam’s nomination during the parliamentary session. To Lam, a former public security chief who secured a second term as party general secretary earlier this year, pledged loyalty to the country and the constitution following his election.
In the same session, the National Assembly unanimously elected former central bank governor Le Minh Hung as Vietnam’s new prime minister.
The elections complete a major leadership reshuffle in the one-party state, where the Communist Party holds ultimate authority.

Reliability assessment
Single source provides direct, concrete, checkable details including named individuals (To Lam, Le Minh Hung), specific numbers (495 lawmakers, unanimous vote), and public event (National Assembly election).
The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Khaama Press: 'tightens grip on power' (title implies coercive control), 'most powerful Vietnamese leader in decades' and 'significant departure' (evaluative hyperbole on power concentration), 'more centralised and authoritarian model' (speculative opinion on political direction). These mix factual reporting with loaded, interpretive phrasing.
