Water Supply Network Completed for 300 Families in Kunar Province
The Mines and Petroleum Directorate of Kunar Province has completed and inaugurated a new drinking water supply network in Spin Kalay village, located in the Khas Kunar district. The infrastructure project, funded at a cost of 1.5 million Afghanis, is designed to provide reliable access to clean water for 300 local households.
Mawlawi Mohammad Shirin Haqqani, the provincial director of the Mines and Petroleum Directorate, confirmed that the completed system features a 40,000-liter clean water reservoir alongside a newly installed pipeline network. The infrastructure was officially handed over to community representatives following final construction checks.
Beyond addressing essential water access needs, the development initiative generated temporary employment during its implementation phase. Dozens of local workers were contracted to assist with excavation, pipe laying, and reservoir construction, providing short-term income for families in the district.
Provincial officials stated that the network will significantly reduce the daily burden on residents who previously traveled long distances to collect water from unregulated sources. The directorate emphasized that the system is now fully operational and will be maintained through established local oversight mechanisms. The completion of this project marks another step in ongoing provincial efforts to expand basic utility services across rural communities in Kunar.
