Water Supply Networks Completed in Panjshir’s Rukha District

Three drinking water supply networks have been completed and officially handed over to communities in the Rukha district of Panjshir province. The infrastructure projects, situated in the villages of Abdaoh, Bakshi Khelo, and Nulaba, were financed by the Aga Khan Foundation at a total cost of $200,513.

Provincial spokesperson Saifuddin Laton confirmed that the newly operational systems now provide reliable drinking water to nearly 700 households in the region. The completion of these networks aims to reduce public health risks and ease daily burdens for residents who previously relied on distant or seasonal water sources.

The initiative forms part of a broader rural infrastructure program in Rukha district. This year, the Aga Khan Foundation launched eight drinking water projects with a combined budget of $451,366. While three have reached completion, five additional networks remain under active construction. Local authorities stated that the remaining projects will be finalized according to the established engineering timeline.

Officials highlighted the role of community coordination in maintaining the new infrastructure, noting that local water management committees will oversee routine maintenance and equitable distribution. The Aga Khan Foundation has indicated that it will continue to support provincial efforts to expand essential services in underserved areas across Panjshir.
