White House Spokesperson Says US Exceeded Military Objectives in 38-Day Iran Operation
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated that the United States achieved and exceeded its main military objectives in Iran during 38 days of Operation Epic Wrath.
Leavitt wrote on X that President Donald Trump had estimated the operation would last 4-6 weeks. She called the outcome a victory for the US, achieved by Trump and the military, creating maximum leverage for negotiations toward a diplomatic solution and peace.
Leavitt said Trump succeeded in reopening the Strait of Hormuz and suspended bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks. Iran announced negotiations with the US will begin on April 10 in Islamabad, though the US has not confirmed.
Reuters reported that White House officials said Israel agreed to a temporary ceasefire. Trump said on Tuesday that if no agreement is reached, "a civilization will be completely destroyed."
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is possible for two weeks via coordination with Iranian forces, considering technical limitations. Araghchi said on behalf of Iran's Supreme National Security Council that if attacks on Iran stop, Iranian forces are ready to halt defensive attacks.
Oil prices fell following ceasefire news, with the US saying the ceasefire begins with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
