Afghanistan's Saffron Exports Reach $54 Million Last Year
Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced that the country's saffron exports reached $54 million last year.
Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that 56 tons of saffron were exported during the period, with the majority going to India, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock described saffron as one of Afghanistan's most important export items. They said efforts to develop the sector are ongoing, noting that expanding cultivation beyond Herat to other provinces could increase production levels and export capacity.
The expansion aims to boost economic growth and farmers' incomes, positioning saffron as a key driver in the national economy.
Economic experts believe that with greater investment, improved production quality and better access to global markets, Afghan saffron could become a more prominent international brand.
