Economic Commission Approves 12 Infrastructure and Development Projects
The Economic Commission of the Islamic Emirate’s Prime Minister’s Office has approved 12 major development and infrastructure projects, according to an announcement by the Economic Deputy. The approved initiatives prioritize expanding the national power grid, upgrading healthcare and religious facilities, and extending transportation networks across multiple provinces.
A primary focus of the commission’s decision is the expansion of electricity transmission lines to Paktika, Herat, Farah, Nimroz, and Tarin Kot. The projects also include targeted rural electrification efforts, though reporting on specific locations varies. Ariana News highlights electrification work in Seyedan village in Helmand’s Garshak district, while RTA cites Garmsir district in Helmand, central Sar-e Pol, and Pashtun Kot in Faryab.
In the healthcare sector, the commission authorized the activation and capacity expansion of the 350-bed Ainu Mena Hospital in Kandahar. Religious infrastructure will also see development with the construction of a grand mosque in Nimroz province.
Transportation and agricultural projects form another key component of the approval. The commission sanctioned the development of railway lines connecting Turghundi to Herat, as well as the Andkhoy to Shibirghan and Mazar-i-Sharif corridor. Additionally, irrigation and dam initiatives in Faryab province were approved. RTA specifically identified the Kheshtpol irrigation project and the Dahna Dara Dam, whereas Ariana News referred to these efforts more broadly as provincial irrigation works.
The Economic Deputy stated that the newly approved projects are intended to strengthen national infrastructure and support regional development. Implementation timelines and funding allocations were not detailed in the announcement.
