Pakistani Company Continues $110 Million Beverage Can Factory Project in Afghanistan Despite Border Closure

KABUL (Afghan Verified) — Pakistani aluminum beverage can manufacturer PABSI stated it is continuing its $110 million project to build a factory in Afghanistan, despite the closure of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border since October 2025.

The new facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 1.3 billion beverage cans, according to the company.

PABSI said the border closure, due to security concerns and military operations, has disrupted its trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian markets. Significant exports pass through Afghan corridors, and the shutdown has limited the company's sales and competitiveness.

The company issued a statement confirming its commitment to the project amid ongoing political and security tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The closure continues to impact regional trade and broader geopolitical dynamics.

PABSI emphasized that the factory project remains on track, highlighting its potential to boost local manufacturing capabilities in Afghanistan.
