Minister of Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Azizi has announced the allocation of 1,000 acres of land in the Torrahi area near Hairatan port in Balkh province for the establishment of a special economic zone. The move is intended to attract investment from Uzbekistan and strengthen economic ties between the two regions.

The announcement came after a series of meetings between Minister Azizi and Amanbay Orynbayev, the Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The officials discussed strategies to expand trade and economic cooperation, specifically focusing on the export of Afghan cotton, coal, and fruits. The talks also covered the potential for pharmaceutical production and the processing of minerals.

As part of the effort to streamline trade, Minister Azizi requested the establishment of a coordination and liaison office within the Termez market. This office would serve as a point of contact to facilitate the movement of goods and manage trade relations.

In response to these goals, Orynbayev stated that trade chambers would be opened in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. These chambers are intended to help market Afghan export products and provide Afghan businesses with greater access to Central Asian and Russian markets.
