120 Orchards Planned in Baghlan to Promote Alternative Crops

Provincial officials in Baghlan have announced plans to establish 120 one-jerib orchards in three districts to encourage farmers to shift from poppy cultivation.

The orchards will be located in Khust, Pul-e-Hisar and Talah wa Barfak districts, according to Abdullah Niazi, a provincial agriculture official. The project follows guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.

Officials also said around 55 metric tons of improved wheat seed will be distributed to farmers in the province this year. The measures aim to support local farmers, increase agricultural output, reduce dependence on imports and improve economic conditions.
