KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- The Taliban's Department for Combating Accidents reported 225 incidents involving mines and unexploded ordnance across Afghanistan from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, killing 96 people and injuring 328 others, for a total of 474 victims.
Among the victims, 321 were children and 153 adults, including 380 men and 94 women. Kunar province recorded the highest number of incidents at 40, followed by Farah with 23. High numbers were also reported in Nangarhar, Herat and Kandahar.
The department said clearance operations destroyed 45,210 mines and unexploded ordnance items across more than 94 square kilometers. An additional 17,441 items were destroyed following 3,300 hotline calls. Awareness programs reached 2.2 million people.
Mine clearance capacity has declined by 70% compared to 15 years ago due to reduced international aid, the department stated. It has allocated 70 million afghanis (approximately $1 million) for this year, which officials described as insufficient. The department is reaching out to the World Bank and United Nations for further support.
