
Afghan and Azerbaijani Officials Discuss Trade Transit and Export Cooperation in Baku
Senior officials from Afghanistan and Azerbaijan met in Baku to discuss expanding economic cooperation and improving transit routes for Afghan exports. The discussions were led by Mullah Faizullah Tamim, director of the Afghanistan Standards and Quality Authority, and Rahman Dursun oglu Hummatov, Azerbaijan’s deputy minister of digital development and transport.
Representatives from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the state-owned Oil and Gas Company also attended the meeting. Officials stated that the agenda focused on simplifying export procedures, aligning production standards, and establishing efficient logistical corridors to help Afghan goods reach European markets.
Azerbaijani delegates reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating the transit of Afghan products through regional networks. Both sides highlighted the importance of standardizing manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with international trade requirements. The talks also addressed infrastructure improvements and regulatory coordination needed to sustain long-term market access.
The meeting reflects broader efforts to diversify Afghanistan’s export channels and reduce transit delays. By utilizing Azerbaijan’s established transport infrastructure, Afghan authorities aim to secure more reliable pathways for commercial shipments. Both delegations agreed to continue technical consultations to implement agreed-upon transit measures and monitor trade facilitation progress. Officials noted that sustained coordination would be essential to overcome logistical challenges and maintain steady commercial flows.
