Afghan and Iranian Private Sectors Meet to Boost Agricultural Exports and Trade Cooperation

Officials from Afghanistan's agricultural sector and Iranian trade representatives gathered in Kabul for discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, participants focused on several key areas including the completion of infrastructure projects and the expansion of agricultural trade.

Khan Mohammad Frotan advocated for the prompt finishing of the second Milak border bridge located in Nimroz. This step, he said, would help increase the volume of Afghan agricultural goods exported to Iran. He further suggested that Iran should source its imports from Afghanistan instead of turning to suppliers in Brazil, Argentina, or Pakistan.

Mahmoud Sayadat indicated that there is a demand in Iran for animal feed and oilseeds produced in Afghanistan. He added that Iranian partners are prepared to share technical expertise and supply machinery to improve agricultural yields in Afghanistan.

Abdul Rahim Seddiqi raised concerns over the elevated costs associated with shipping goods from Chabahar port onward to India, describing this as an obstacle to expanding export markets.

The meeting also noted the recent arrival of an Iranian delegation in Afghanistan. This group, headed by the president of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce, entered the country on the twenty-first day of the current solar month with the goal of fostering greater trade collaboration.
