
Afghanistan and Shanghai Chambers of Commerce Sign Trade Cooperation Memorandum
A delegation from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment recently traveled to Shanghai to hold discussions with local business leaders and Chinese investors regarding expanded economic ties. The visit, led by Seyed Karim Hashemi, focused on strengthening commercial partnerships and exploring investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
During the meetings, representatives highlighted Afghanistan’s strategic geographic position and its potential role in regional trade networks. Discussions centered on the country’s participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, with delegates outlining prospects for collaboration in mining, agriculture, transit logistics, and technology development. Both sides emphasized the mutual benefits of aligning commercial frameworks to facilitate cross-border trade and private sector investment.
The engagements concluded with the formal signing of a trade cooperation memorandum between the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment and the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The agreement establishes a structured framework for ongoing dialogue, joint business ventures, and information sharing between the two commercial bodies.
Officials from the Afghan delegation stated that the memorandum is intended to streamline investment procedures and encourage Chinese enterprises to explore opportunities in Afghanistan’s developing markets. The Shanghai business community expressed interest in leveraging the new agreement to expand its commercial footprint in the region. Both chambers indicated that technical working groups will be formed to implement the terms of the memorandum and advance identified economic projects.
