
Afghanistan Cricket Board Meets New Coach Richard Pybus to Discuss Strategies
KABUL (Afghan Verified) — The Afghanistan Cricket Board held an introduction and coordination meeting with its new national team head coach Richard Pybus in Kabul on Sunday, attended by senior officials and national team captains Hashmatullah Shahidi and Ibrahim Zadran.
The session, led by ACB chairman Naseeb Khan according to Ariana News, focused on long-term strategic visions, performance goals and upcoming training camps. Pajhwok Afghan News described the event as a press conference where Pybus, appointed in February 2026 and arriving in Kabul on Saturday, pledged to strengthen all aspects of Afghan cricket with an emphasis on technical development and Test cricket.
Discussions covered coordination for international competitions and enhancements to national programs. The board described the meeting as constructive.
The national team has begun a four-week training camp in Kabul to prepare for an upcoming series against India in June 2026, consisting of one Test match and three ODIs, Pajhwok reported. Pybus highlighted the development of fast bowlers and overall team improvement.
ACB spokesman Dawlat Ahmadzai was quoted by Pajhwok as expressing optimism about the team's future under Pybus's guidance.
