Afghanistan Mine Authority Head Urges Resumed International Aid Without Political Conditions

KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, head of Afghanistan's National Mine Action Authority, stated that vast areas of the country remain contaminated by landmines, endangering seven million people.

Speaking at an event for the International Day of Mine Awareness and Mine Clearance, Turabi called on international donors to resume assistance for mine clearance efforts without linking it to politics.

He noted that some institutions and countries have halted their support for demining activities in Afghanistan, exacerbating the risks posed by unexploded ordnance from decades of conflict.

Turabi emphasized the urgent need for global cooperation to address the widespread contamination, which continues to threaten lives and hinder development across large swathes of land.

The official's remarks highlight ongoing challenges in post-conflict hazard mitigation, with clearance work requiring sustained technical expertise and funding from abroad.
