Afghanistan's Meteorology Department Warns of Heavy Rains and Floods in 32 Provinces

KABUL (Afghan Verified) — The Meteorology Department of Afghanistan's Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has issued a warning for heavy rains, thunder and flash floods across 32 provinces, excluding Farah and Nimroz.

The alert, corroborated by Omid Radio and RTA, urges residents to avoid rivers and flood-prone areas to prevent potential harm, according to authorities cited by Omid Radio.

RTA provided additional details, stating the warning covers heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and flash floods expected on Tuesday, the 18th of Hamal, with rainfall amounts ranging from 10 to 65 mm in various areas. Heavy snowfall is also forecast in high and cold regions, including the Salang passes.

No specific discrepancies were noted between the outlets on the core warning, though RTA included the extra elements of wind, precise timing, precipitation measurements and snowfall, which were absent from Omid Radio's report.

Such weather events pose risks of disruption to travel, agriculture and infrastructure in the affected provinces, prompting the precautionary advisories.
