Afghanistan's national cricket team will play Canada on Thursday, 30 Dalu 1404 (Feb. 19, 2026), in its final match of the 2026 T20 Cricket World Cup. The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Afghanistan time at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India.
This is the last game of Group 4, which included Afghanistan, South Africa, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates and Canada. South Africa and New Zealand advanced as the top two teams to the Super 8 stage.
The other three teams, including Afghanistan, have been eliminated. Canada has lost all three of its matches so far, while Afghanistan has one win and two losses. A victory for Afghanistan would not affect qualification but could secure third place in the group and add another win in the tournament.
Afghanistan's players, coached by Jonathan Trott, lost to New Zealand and South Africa and defeated the UAE. The team needed a win against New Zealand or South Africa to advance; a close loss to South Africa ended those chances.
The match also marks the final appearance for Jonathan Trott, the British coach who has led Afghanistan since July 2022. Trott played a key role in the development of Afghan cricket, with his biggest achievement being the team's semi-final appearance in the previous World Cup.
