Construction Begins on 29-Kilometer Road Linking Kunar and Nuristan Provinces
Work has commenced on a new 29-kilometer road connecting Kunar and Nuristan provinces, funded through the Islamic Emirate’s national development budget. The project, which carries a budget of more than 526 million Afghanis, is designed to improve regional connectivity and infrastructure resilience.
According to provincial spokesperson Faryadun Samim, the route will extend from Darin village in Kunar’s Ghaziabad district to Kamo village in Nuristan’s Kamdesh district. The roadway will be constructed with a width of seven meters and will include five culverts to manage water flow across the terrain.
The engineering plan also incorporates flood-prevention infrastructure, specifically reinforced retaining walls along vulnerable sections of the route. These measures are intended to protect the roadway from seasonal flooding and landslides, which have historically disrupted travel in the mountainous region.
Local residents have welcomed the initiative, noting that the new link will facilitate trade, improve access to essential services, and reduce travel times between the two provinces. Officials stated that the project aligns with broader efforts to expand transportation networks and support economic development in eastern Afghanistan.
Construction crews have mobilized to the site, and authorities indicated that work will proceed according to the approved engineering timeline. The project remains under the oversight of provincial development departments, which will monitor progress and ensure compliance with the allocated budget.
