Construction has begun on two small dams in the Shinaki Kariz area of Gilan district, Ghazni province. The project is being carried out at a cost of 19 million Afghanis.
Ghazni Deputy Governor Maulvi Sardar Mohammad Madani said the dams aim to raise groundwater levels, reduce the effects of drought, supply water for irrigation of farmland, and prevent flood damage. Each dam will have a storage capacity of 80,000 cubic meters of water.
The work is expected to be completed within six months. Dozens of local residents will receive job opportunities during the construction period.
People in the area have welcomed the projects. They expect the dams to help reduce water shortages, increase agricultural yields, and limit flood damage.
