Viktor Vasiliev, Chairman of the CSTO Permanent Council, stated that armed groups along Afghanistan's northern borders pose the most important security concern for the CSTO in Central Asia.

The security situation on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border remains complex despite communication efforts with the Afghan government, Vasiliev said. He identified rocket attacks from Afghan soil toward Tajikistan as a serious concern for the organization.

CSTO members plan to increase joint cooperation to counter armed and extremist groups along Afghanistan's northern borders. The organization has previously supported Tajikistan with joint exercises and military equipment to protect the 1,200 km border with Afghanistan.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan states that Afghan soil poses no threat to neighboring countries and will not allow armed groups to use it against them.

Armenia has suspended participation in CSTO activities.
